Unified Sports programs catch on in many U.S. schools
More than 2,000 schools in 42 states now have Unified Sports programs, which promote the integration of students with and without disabilities for athletic activities and competitions. Created more than 20 years ago as part of Special Olympics, the programs have grown in popularity since the launching of a federal effort to promote inclusive school culture through Project Unify, organizers say.
