Prenatal infection exposure ups autism, depression risk in youths

Researchers found that children whose mothers were hospitalized for any infection during pregnancy had a 79% increased likelihood of developing autism by age 7 and a 24% higher depression risk by age 21, compared with those whose mothers didn't have infections during gestation. The findings in JAMA Psychiatry showed no higher odds of bipolar disorder or psychosis among those with prenatal infection exposure.   United Press International (3/6),  MedPage Today (free registration)
