Opinion: Higher autism rates could mean more demand for special educators

Recent data showing a 30% increase in autism spectrum disorder diagnoses could spark a need for more special-education teachers, Jo Montie, program director of the University of St. Thomas' online program in autism spectrum disorders, writes in this blog post. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 6% increase in job opportunities for special-education teachers from 2012 to 2022, she notes.
