Discussion on Working with Schools

I have been participating in a forum and other activities with the Beach Center at the University of Kansas. Periodically, they will have a featured discussion for a week or so, in addition to the other discussions.

Next week, June 23, I will be starting a discussion on Advice for Working with Public Schools & the Special Education Process. This will be based on advice/ideas that I will be presenting at the Texas Parent to Parent Conference in next week.

Many of my comments will not be new to most of you. However, what the CoP wants is parents sharing information & ideas of what has worked for them & their insights & comments. Their philosophy is that assisting parents needs to center around parents. They want to move "from a traditional view of researchers (& professionals) being in the center of the early childhood knowledge universe to ensuring that families are in the center and that resources encircle them."

Go to the website @ www.beachcenter.org for more information or to join. Click on Community of Practice & see what's going on. You do not need to join the forum to view the discussions. However, you can not tell who is posting comments or post comments, unless you join. I encourage you to participate. While the CoP focuses on ages 0-8, much of this & other discussions are appropriate to all parents.
