New Solutions for Cell Phone Amplification!



The world is a changin’! More and more people are using cell phones and eliminating their land lines.  Although this transformation is great for so many reasons, there have not been as many options available for cell phone amplification as there have been for land lines.
Well things are looking up! Below are two cell phone amplification solutions that we have tried successfully with people who have hearing loss. Students invent gloves that turn signing into speech



    A group of Ukrainian students competing at the finals of Microsoft's Imagine Cup have created a pair of gloves called EnableTalk that use technology to turn sign language into text and then into spoken words. The creators say the hardware costs $75 per pair, and users can modify the systems to account for regional variations in sign language. Report Outlines supports for People w/ Hearing Impairments

Children who cannot hear or who have hearing impairments benefit from early exposure to signed or spoken language, according to a new report by the Government Accountability Office. The report finds obstacles to providing these services, from determining which services are most effective to hiring and retaining quality teaching staff and service providers in the public education system. Furthermore, one advocate said students who cannot hear need long-term support throughout their educational careers. Saliva test detects virus linked to hearing loss in newborns

Researchers said they were able to identify 100% of babies with cytomegalovirus, an infection that can lead to hearing loss, using wet saliva sample and 97% using dried saliva sample. The findings are published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Study sees Higher Rates of Hearing Loss among Teenage Girls

Researchers found that the number of teenage girls who experienced a form of hearing loss rose to 17% in a recent survey from 12% in a previous survey. The recent study also found an increased number of teens who reported listening to portable music players during a given day, which could explain why girls are catching up with boys' rates of hearing loss.
