Inclusion in Europe

Similar to the United States, many European countries are in the process of reviewing and amending their policies in regards to inclusive education. Monitoring tools, which are often based on a set of indicators, are critical in this process to make sure intended targets are met. Currently in Europe, there are few qualitative or quantitative indicators available.

The European Agency for Development in Special Needs Education has recognized this need and recently conducted a project, which has lead to the development of a initial set of indicators suitable for monitoring developments at the national & European level. In total, 23 European countries were involved in the process. The summary report - which presents the framework, rationale, aims, & objectives of the project, as well as the methodology used to develop the set of indicators - can be read in twenty one different languages at: http://www.european-agency.org/publications/ereports/development-of-a-set-of-indicators-2013-for-inclusive-education-in-europe/development-of-a-set-of-indicators-2013-for-inclusive-education-in-europe
