More preschoolers are now taking psychiatric drugs
An increasing number of U.S. preschoolers diagnosed with depression & attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, among other conditions, are now being prescribed psychiatric medications. Experts say that such drugs are not yet approved by the Food & Drug Administration for use in children younger than 6. "We have very little research to show how psychiatric medications affect the developing nervous system, for instance," said Dr. Mark Olfson, a psychiatrist at Columbia University.
