Raised in New Mexico in the 50's & 60's. Worked with public school programs for students with disabilities for 30+ years, mostly as a director of special education. Worked for 2 years at a small residential state school for individuals with mental retardation. Now working with a state project that provides training and information for parents of children with disabilities.
I was on the board of the state association for directors of special education. I also volunteered with ARC of Texas, the Special Olympics program at various levels.
There is lots I do not know, but I do have experience and contacts.
New software targets mobile sign-language translation
Computer scientists at a company in Scotland are developing new software that uses webcam technology to translate sign language into text. The so-called Portable Sign Language Translator is expected to be released as an application for mobile devices using Linux or Windows and is being developed for use with various sign languages, including American and British versions.
