•"Listening" dogs improve concentration, reading skills

In the United Kingdom, schools are enlisting dogs to help students learn to read fluently. Through the Dogs Helping Kids program, canines provide reading support and also act as therapeutic aids. "Instilling positive behaviour at age seven to eight, when children start questioning patterns of behaviour, has a knock-on effect later," said Tracey Berridge, who established the program. "Dogs teach children about responsibility and respect, while motivating those struggling with poor attention."
