The
Kennedy Center is following a national trend among theaters by offering special
musical performances for children with autism and sensory processing issues.
Among the accommodations the Kennedy Center is making: selling only half of the
seats to allow children the space to move, having music selections vetted by
experts and keeping the house lights low. The center also publishes a digital
storybook to prepare children for the routines of going to the theater. The Washington Post (1/18) http://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/music/kennedy-center-offers-sensory-friendly-concerts-for-children-with-special-needs/2013/01/17/fee66020-5f29-11e2-9940-6fc488f3fecd_story.html
