What if schools used an "abundance model" to meet students' needs?
The pressures of standardized testing has led some schools to adopt what Rebecca Alber, Edutopia's consulting online editor, calls the "deficit model." In this blog post, she encourages educators to abandon that model and instead embrace the "abundance model," in which schools address the needs of the whole child. To help students foster their talents and skills, she suggests having students set goals, share the skills they know well, understand how they learn best and engage in self-reflection.
