Preschoolers who stutter have slightly better verbal, nonverbal skills

Australian researchers followed 1,619 children for more than three years starting at 8 months old and found that those who stuttered by age 4 had higher scores on verbal and nonverbal tests compared with children who did not stutter. The study published in the journal Pediatrics showed no substantial differences in the social and psychological development of stuttering and nonstuttering children.
