Experts rethinking medication-only approach to ADHD
Some experts are reconsidering the use of medication alone in the treatment of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. A prominent 1999 study led to the drug-only approach that is widely used based on the study's conclusions that behavioral therapies do little for patients with ADHD. "My belief based on the science is that symptom reduction is a good thing, but adding skill-building is a better thing," said Stephen Hinshaw, psychologist at the University of California, Berkeley and one of the 1999 study's researchers.
