Measuring the brain's iron levels may help to diagnose ADHD

A study in Radiology of 22 children and teenagers diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder found that individuals who had never taken psychostimulant drugs had substantially reduced iron levels in their brain, compared with those without ADHD and medicated ADHD patients. Researchers said larger studies are needed to determine if magnetic resonance imaging to measure brain iron levels could be a clinically feasible biomarker for ADHD.
