An Austrian study in Early Human Development showed that family videos could help distinguish children with temporary autistic symptoms from those likely to develop autism spectrum disorder. Researchers evaluated 314 minutes of home videos made by families of 18 Italian boys from birth to age 6 months who developed autistic symptoms between the ages of 12 months and 24 months, and found the children who received a later autism diagnosis showed abnormal movements such as body stiffness, poor head control and slow fidgety-like actions, six of whom showed monotonous or repetitious movements.
