Study: Suspensions tied to poorer academic performance


African-American students and those with disabilities are suspended at higher rates than their white peers -- widening the academic achievement gap -- according to a recent study from the Center for Civil Rights Remedies at UCLA. This article highlights efforts in a Florida school district to abandon zero-tolerance policies and curb the school-to-prison pipeline.
