Girls, Hispanic children account for biggest boosts in ADHD diagnoses

An estimated 12% of US children, ages 5 to 17, had ever been diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in 2011, an increase of 43% from 2003, researchers reported in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry. Researchers found the prevalence of ADHD increased by 83% among Hispanic children, 46% among white children and 55% among girls -- though boys continue to have more than double the rate of ADHD diagnoses than girls.
