Study: Children on ADHD meds may have lower bone density

A study showed that about 25% of children who took medications for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, such as Ritalin, Adderall and Strattera, had lower-than-normal bone density, and bone mass was lower for children on ADHD drugs, compared with those who didn't take such medications. The findings, presented at the meeting of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, were based on government health survey data involving more than 5,300 youths, ages 8 to 17.
