What If Your Child Refuses to go to School?

recently highlighted a study that examines chronic absenteeism known as “school
refusal,” which may be triggered by anxiety, depression, and/or a family
crisis. It can lead to weeks or even months of missed school days. There are estimates
that anxiety-based school refusal affects 2% to 5% of school-age children. It
is often triggered when students are transitioning into middle or high school.
As the anxiety increases, getting out of bed in the morning can be a chore and
some may suffer physical symptoms such as stomach aches. The cause of school
