The US Department of Education is considering how to define a
requirement that online coursework include "regular and substantive" interaction
between teachers and students. Those arguing for a change say the current
definition -- set in 1992 -- does not reflect today's technology, while others
say easing the standards could make online education too automated. Inside Higher Ed
