A UK study in JAMA Network Open showed that 19.8% of youths with
autism spectrum disorder had a depression diagnosis by age 27, compared with 6%
of those in the general population, with a higher depression risk found among
those with ASD and no intellectual disability. Researchers also found that
depression was more prevalent among cognitively normal half- and full-siblings
of those with ASD, compared with the general population. Healio
