Researchers found that the prevalence of parent-reported autism is
among an estimated 2.5% of youths, or 1.5 million of those ages 3 to 17 in the
US, which is higher than the approximate 1.7% pediatric ASD prevalence reported
by the CDC, but slightly lower than the 2.76% reported in the 2017 National
Health Interview Survey. The findings in Pediatrics, based on 2016 National
Survey of Children's Health data, also showed increased health needs and
difficulties accessing care among those with parent-reported ASD, compared with
those with other behavioral and emotional disorders, such as
attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder or Down syndrome. CNN
