Childhood lead exposure may adversely affect later mental health

Adults who had elevated blood lead levels at age 11 were more likely to develop any of 11 psychiatric disorders & had increased neuroticism and reduced conscientiousness & agreeableness, compared with those with lower blood lead levels as children, according to a study in JAMA Psychiatry. Researchers also associated every 5 microgram per deciliter increase in childhood blood lead levels to a 34% higher likelihood of general psychopathological symptoms in adulthood.  Reuters (1/23),  HealthDay News
