Reliable ASD diagnosis found starting at age 14 months

A study in JAMA Pediatrics showed that 79% and 83% of infants diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder at ages 14 months and 16 months met the criteria for ASD at age 3 years, respectively, compared with only 50% of those first diagnosed with ASD at ages 12 months to 13 months. "Our findings suggest that an ASD diagnosis becomes stable starting at 14 months, and overall is more stable than other diagnoses, such as language or developmental delay," said lead researcher Karen Pierce.
