Is College the next frontier for special education?
The College of New Jersey has a four-year certificate program for students with intellectual disabilities, & is working with local school districts to encourage more students to view college as an option. Students take various courses in topics such as marketing, health & exercise science and gender studies, & receive assistance through peer mentoring & other programs. "I see this as a brave new frontier of special education, & I think we'll see a lot of two-year, four-year programs develop over the next few years," said Richard Blumberg, a co-founder of the program.
