Device Aids communication for Preschoolers
A New Jersey elementary school is using a device to facilitate communication with preschool students who have autism. The Proxtalker is a portable, programmable tool that is designed to replace oral speech for children who are nonverbal. Students use the device along with sign language and the iPad, but students can operate the Proxtalker using gross motor skills, rather than the finer motor skills needed to operate a tablet computer.
