Students with autism to be focus of online degree program

The Sage Colleges in Albany, N.Y., will offer an online program for students with autism starting in January. The program -- believed to be the first of its kind specifically geared to students with autism -- allows students to avoid uncomfortable social situations and provides for greater flexibility in content delivery and testing to accommodate their needs. The prevalence of learning disabilities in American colleges could spur the growth of similar programs elsewhere, but the high cost of technology and training for such instruction would likely be a barrier.
