Group expands ADHD guidelines to include those ages 4 to 18
The American Academy of Pediatrics has released updated guidelines for diagnosing and treating children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, recommending that all patients ages 4 to 18 years old who show symptoms of the condition be evaluated. Previous recommendations called for the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in children 6 to 12 years old, but researchers said behavior disorders, attention problems and over-activity can manifest at an early age and that ADHD frequently persists until adolescence or adulthood.
