College Students and Co-Occurring Disorders
College students with
mental health and substance abuse issues are common in college-aged students.
The transition into college after high school is empowering and stressful at
the same time. According to a 2016 American College Health Association survey, 37
percent of students reported feeling depressed within the last 12 months & 21
percent felt overwhelming anxiety which are high numbers & could lead to
students self-medicating. This publication Behavioral Health Among College
Students Information & Resource Kit can help parents & student understand
the preventative measures that colleges and universities are trying to take
when it comes to issues such as students seeking help with addiction, accessing
mental health services, & crisis management. Continue
Reading to learn more about these issues, other preventative strategies, & the resource kit.
